5 causes of motor overheating

An excessively hot motor during operation can have 5 causes, as follows:
First cause: short-circuited windings
Components in a motor that has been used for a long time naturally deteriorate. If this is the cause, the recommended remedy is rewinding the motor as the preferred solution.

Second cause: a winding fault to ground
A winding-to-ground fault results from damage to the winding's insulation wrapping or coating.
This can be caused by contamination, corrosion or vibration from motor operation.
The suggested repair is to   re-bake or re-impregnate the winding with varnish.

Third cause: a short circuit between the start and run windings
Long-used components can deteriorate internally, causing a short circuit during operation. If this is the cause, the source recommends rewinding the motor as well.

Fourth cause:   worn bearings
This is caused by deterioration of internal components, such as worn bearings. In this case you can buy replacement bearings or send the motor to a workshop to replace the bearing set for you.

Fifth cause: overload
Heat is unavoidable during motor operation and can arise for various reasons. One is excess current caused by the motor carrying too much load, or an overload condition ( Overload)
