6 Borehole pump installation techniques
borehole pump are water pumps used to draw water from depths below ground or from a borehole.
Their main components are the pump section, containing multiple impellers and a shaft connected to the motor, and the motor that drives the shaft and impellers. More impellers allow water to be delivered to a greater height.
Today we discuss techniques for “ determining the installation level of a borehole pump ” for readers to understand as basic guidance before installing a borehole pump. Let us look at the points involved.
1. Do not install the pump at the well screen, because suction can draw sand or rock fragments into the borehole and prevent groundwater from cooling the motor adequately, shortening its service life.
2. A borehole pump should be installed at least 3 meters
3. Install below the pumping water level by at least 6 meters. If limited well depth or a deep water level prevents compliance, install a device to stop the pump if the borehole runs dry, such as a water-level sensor.
4. If the borehole has several screened sections and installation below a screen is necessary, place the pump between screened sections, within the well casing.
5. In an open-hole well, do not install at weathered rock sections, because rock fragments could enter the pump.
6. If the pumping water level is shallow but the borehole is deep, the pump need not be installed very deep. Greater depth increases pressure in the delivery pipe and makes removal and installation more difficult.
