Choosing industrial and household water pumps for the right application

Many water pump types are available today to suit different requirements, including   agricultural water pumps,  ,  automatic household pumps,   or   and pumps for industrial factories.

Today we present considerations for selecting 2 types: pumps used in large buildings or factories, and pumps used at home. Let us look at how to make the right choice.

1. Selecting pumps for large buildings   or   industrial factories
Pumps for large buildings   or   and industrial factories require careful consideration because they are large and involve significant purchase and maintenance costs. Before buying, obtain the following information:

1. The type of liquid to be pumped, its temperature, density and viscosity

2. The required pumping rate ( Flowrate )

3. The required pressure or elevation to which the liquid must be pumped, generally called Head

4. Pump rotational speed

5. Characteristics of the pipe system in the application

2. Selecting pumps for residential homes
Household water pumps   are mainly packaged units consisting of a pump and pressure tank.   They come in several designs, such as a pump mounted on the pressure tank   with a cover, commonly called a cylindrical tank pump. The pump is controlled by a pressure switch ( Pressure Switch) and operates automatically. When water is used in the house, pipe pressure falls to the set point and the pump starts supplying water. When use stops or the outlet is closed, pressure rises to the set point and the pump stops. Sizes are relatively limited because these units are designed for small to medium households. Larger houses or buildings need pump sets with greater water delivery and a choice of pressure levels. The following points help select a suitable household pump:

1. Choose a packaged pump with a pressure tank. The tank helps maintain delivery-pipe pressure so that the pump does not have to run

continuously, saving electricity and extending its service life.

2. It should be well assembled, use durable materials and include motor burnout protection.

3. Choose the right size so that the pump does not work excessively hard.
